International Student Network
Are you looking for a student organization that gathers international and exchange students in Leiden and The Hague? Then the International Student Network (ISN) is the perfect place for you! Here are some of the highlights of this organization.
Meeting New Friends
As part of the larger Erasmus Student Network, ISN is a branch organization that is based in Leiden. Its purpose, is to provide a common platform for students to gather and socialize. By bringing students together, ISN helps international students meet new friends and feel at home in the Netherlands.
In ISN, members have access to a wide range of different academic, social and cultural activities. In December, for example, the club held an Ugly Sweater Ice Skating event and a final Christmas Dinner to wrap up the school year. Every month, ISN members can look forward to these types of seasonal events and excursions.
ISN also offers its regular weekly activities. These include International Student Drinks that take place every Wednesday at 10 pm in Einstein, a bar located in the center of Leiden. Every week, the entire venue is booked exclusively for international students. It is a great way to meet new friends and grab some drinks with fellow ISN members.
If you live in The Hague like me, you can also participate in these activities. The ISN Hague Committee hosts its separate events in the city. Every week, they hold their own International Fusion Nights at the O' Casey's pub in The Hague. Although the drinks have not resumed yet, make sure to check out the ISN's Facebook page for more information.
If you are getting excited about these drinks, then you should definitely attend ISN's first Cocktail Party of the semester! On January 31, this event will take place in the ISN Common Room from 19:30-22:00. This night will be the perfect occasion to enjoy a delicious cocktail, while dancing and chatting with fellow international students.
Along with its general events that are open to everyone, ISN also offers its members the opportunity to join different clubs. While ISN does provide its support, it is up to the members directly to run and organize these clubs. ISN offers around fourteen different clubs that include activities such as cooking, yoga, theater, reading and karaoke. If these are not enough, members can also provide their input and create their own clubs!
ISN also offers a language exchange programme, where you can meet new people with whom to learn or practice your skills. When you join the programme, you become paired up with your very own language buddy.
The programme also includes special events that are organized around language exchanges. On January 10, for example, ISN hosted a Dutch Conversation Night for students seeking to practice their Dutch skills. The night began with a focus on speaking Dutch, and then later developed into an informal gathering where members could socialize and pick up language skills in a friendly environment. This language programme is the perfect way to meet new friends while improving your language skills.
